Composite fillings, which are tooth colored fillings, are one of the most common procedures done in our clinics. Rarely, if ever, patients mat experience some post-operative sensitivity with these types of fillings. In rare cases the tooth may need root canal therapy if pain persists. The most common issues that patients may experience are:
· Temperature sensitivity:
Temperature sensitivity is common in composite fillings and can last anywhere from 3-6 weeks. However, if sensitivity persists longer than this, please notify your dentist as soon as possible for a re-evaluation of the tooth.
· Your bite is off:
If your bite is off and you feel like you are biting only on that tooth then please notify your dentist immediately for an adjustment. Adjustments are very simple and will only take a few minutes, usually with no anesthetic required. If a high bite is left untreated it may cause temperature sensitivity and pain in that tooth. Therefore, if you are experiencing this, please contact us immediately so that we can take care of you.
· Soreness at the injection site:
Your lips and tongue might feel numb for a few hours after your appointment. Avoid hot drinks, as well as chewing until the numbness has subsided so as not to accidentally burn or bite your tongue or lips.
· A small number of restored teeth may become agitated and may need root canal therapy.
In most cases these issues will resolve on their own within 2-3 days, but may take up to a week to completely resolve. If they have not resolved within this time period, or if you gave any questions and/or concerns, please contact us as soon as possible.
