Pain Suggested Management Protocol
Many studies have shown over the counter non-narcotic based
pain medication is equally or more effective at managing dental related pain.
PATIENTS NOT ON A BLOOD THINNER OR WITHOUT HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE:
(If you are on blood thinner or have high blood pressure see the altered regimen below)
800 mg Ibuprofen alternating with 1000 mg Tylenol every 8 hours on an alternating schedule
· @8:00 AM take 800 mg of Ibuprofen (Brand name Advil or Motrin)
· @12:00 PM take 1000 mg of Acetaminophen ( Brand name Tylenol)**
· @4:00 PM take 800 mg of Ibuprofen (Brand name Advil or Motrin)
· @8:00PM take 1000 mg of Acetaminophen ( Brand name Tylenol)**
PATIENTS ON BLOOD THINNERS OR WITH HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
FOLLOW THE REGIMEN BELOW:
1 (ONE) Naproxen sodium (ALEVE) alternating with 1000 mg Tylenol every 8 hours on an alternating schedule
· @8:00 AM take 1 (ONE) Naproxen Sodium (Brand name Aleve)
· @12:00 PM take 1000 mg of Acetaminophen ( Brand name Tylenol)**
· @4:00 PM take 1 (ONE) Naproxen Sodium (Brand name Aleve)
· @8:00PM take 1000 mg of Acetaminophen ( Brand name Tylenol)**
*Any above recommendation needs to be altered or adjusted for allergies or routine medications the patient is taking. Please ask your primary doctor or pharmacists if you have any questions or concerns.
**If you are prescribed additional pain medications such as Hydrocodone with Tylenol (325 mg) any addition Tylenol dosage needs to be adjusted not to exceed 1000 mg every 8 hours.
